Rick, who is Director of Anatomy at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, recently received The American Association of Anatomist's (AAA) 2011 Henry Gray/Elsevier Distinguished Educator Award at the AAA's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The award is AAA's highest honor for human anatomy education in the anatomical sciences as broadly defined—including gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroanatomy—at the medical/dental, graduate, or undergraduate level of teaching.
Rick is a dedicated anatomy educator and a gifted lecturer who has received numerous teaching awards throughout his career. One of his colleagues noted, "Rick has long been one of anatomy’s finest teachers, most outstanding and prolific educational scholars, and energetic leaders in the advancement of educational dialogue."
A prolific writer, Rick is the founding co-editor of AAA's newest journal, Anatomical Sciences Education and co-author of Gray's Anatomy for Students as well as author of numerous other educational publications including Gray's Anatomy Flash Cards, Gray's Atlas of Anatomy and Dorland's/Gray's Pocket Atlas of Anatomy.
