UMW SPEAKER FORUM On Sunday, March 6 at University Circle UMC

UMW SPEAKER FORUM: On Sunday, March 6, our United Methodist Women (UMW) group is sponsoring a 9:30am forum with Victoria Grant, Coordinator of the Ujimo Project of the Domestic Violence Center. The presentation will take place in the Yoder Room. Dr. Chalker's class will join the forum that morning. Serving Cleveland for more than 30 years, The Domestic Violence Center is dedicated to ending abuse and providing compassionate treatment for its victims. On duty 24/7 with an emergency hotline, the Center provides confidential shelter, counseling and justice system advocacy, among other services offered to those who suffer abuse.

SPECIAL BONUS: Ms. Grant will stay with us through worship and the potluck following the service, where we will be assembling hygiene kits to donate to the center. While adults pack bags, children in attendance can color specially designed cards that will be included in each kit. Learn more about our neighbors and lend a helpful hand during our time of dining and fellowship. Reservations are not needed for the speaker at 9:30am; however, there is an RSVP available here.

The Reviews Are In: University Circle United Methodist Church is Generous!

VALENTINE PROJECT
American Greetings and Hallmark had better watch out. UCUMC "potluckers" discovered on February 5th how much fun it is to create Valentine's Day cards. 150 cards have been either mailed to members or distributed to long-term care facilities so that our energy and love will be spread around the city on February 14th. Ours may be the only Valentine that some of these folks receive.
People seemed to stay longer, talk more and laugh louder at our most recent potluck - creating something useful and reaching out to the community promoted all of that. Special thanks to the 17 volunteers who offered to help set up, serve and clean up. Special thanks to our volunteer extraordinaire Gwyn Howard, who collected all of the completed Valentines and oversaw orderly return of supplies. Stay tuned - the March 6th potluck promises to be just as much fun, just as creative and just as worthwhile a project!

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY FINAL SCORE
Thanks to everyone who donated canned soup and money to our Souper Bowl Sunday food and funds drive for the Cleveland Foodbank. This morning our Sunday School children are counting the cans of soup and money collected last week – look for our signs with the totals as you leave worship today. Your generous gifts will help many hungry people in our city and have provided a wonderful opportunity for our children to put their faith into action! Thank you.

INTERACT HOMELESS STAND DOWN
The Outreach Committee would very much like to say, THANK YOU, UCUMC, for your overwhelming support of InterAct Cleveland's Homeless Stand Down! InterAct has expressed extreme gratitude for our support.

Together we contributed scores of baby supplies (including more than 1600 diapers), thoughtful housewarming gifts for mothers in new living arrangements and two carloads (Thank you, Chuck, Desmond, and Megan for your labor!) of health and hygiene products.

Additionally, your generous cash donations procured all-day RTA passes for 60 individuals, providing HSD participants with much-needed transportation. A special "thank you" goes to the Judson Manor "Knit-Whits" for their heartfelt donation of colorful homemade winter wear!

All contributions were sincerely appreciated. Thank you!

USO Cookies Project

"Church Women United" of Cleveland is an organization of women from all the churches in this area. One of their projects is to keep the USOs supplied with cookies for our troops as they pass through town at the airport or those who are stationed in Northeast Ohio and visit the USO facilities. UCUMC is a member of the University Circle District of "Church Women United". Our district will again supply the USO with cookies during the month of February. In appreciation for all that these brave soldiers do for us, let's bake or buy some cookies and bring them to church on Sunday, February 27. Have the cookies boxed in clearly marked, non-returnable containers and place them on the designated tables in the parlor. Your "Church Women United" representatives will transport them to the local terminal to be distributed to the USO sites. This is such a little thing to do for those who do so much for us.

Alice Cromwell To Be Honored On Saturday, April 9

Alice Cromwell, a 90-year young angel in the East Ohio Conference will be honored by the East Ohio Reconciling Ministries Network in a special Open Table service on Saturday, April 9, 2pm at Faith United Methodist Church (300 9th St., NW, North Canton). Bishop Judith Craig will be the guest speaker and a reception will follow the worship and communion service.

Alice is a beloved leader in our Conference who challenges traditional thinking in uniquely powerful ways. She has been a tireless advocate for social justice for all persons within and outside our denomination and continues to be active in making the doors of the United Methodist Church truly open to all.

Donations to East Ohio RMN in honor of Alice can be sent to Treasurer Bill Watts, 3727 Sweitzer Street NW, Uniontown, OH 44685 and your name will be included on a special card to her. The mission of RMN is to mobilize United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to transform our Church and the world into the full expression of Christ's inclusive love (www.rmnetwork.org).

Tomorrow's Highlights at University Circle United Methodist Church

Share in the Sacrament of Communion
Some members of our Confirmation Class will be participating in worship and serving communion with their parents. Children will join their families for communion in the sanctuary during worship today.

100 Cans of Soup and 100 Dollars!
Today is SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY! Our Sunday School children have been collecting canned soup and money to benefit the Cleveland Foodbank. Our
goal was to collect 100 cans of soup and 100 dollars - that's one can of soup and one dollar for each yard on a football field! If you have not had an opportunity to contribute and would like to do so, please look for the children after worship. Donations of $1 will be gratefully accepted! Thanks to everyone who contributed to our effort to help "tackle" hunger in our city!

InterAct Cleveland's "Homeless Stand-Down" (HSD)
Our church is participating in InterAct Cleveland's "Homeless Stand-Down" (HSD) by collecting and providing items to provide more than 2,000 people facing homelessness and poverty with access to: 55 social service providers, 15 health screenings, haircuts, massages, winter and non-winter clothing, breakfast, lunch, an RTA bus pass, live entertainment, professional portraits and personal care kits. Items we collect will be distributed by InterAct Cleveland volunteers on Saturday, February 12th at Pilgrim Congregational Church on W. 14th Street. Thank you for generously supporting this program.

All-Church Potluck following Worship
Plan to stay following our worship service today for this festive feast of divine dishes and devilish desserts! From "Be Mine" candies to heart-healthy entrees, there'll be bowlfuls of reasons to come to this love-ly luncheon. Plus…inbetween bites, you can help make Valentines to share with seniors who would love to feel some of the UCUMC love we feel for each other. Come on down to be sure you're a part of this time of food, fellowship and fun.
