WHAT  DID  JOSEPH  HAVE  TO  DO  WITH  IT?

He has been a "mystery man" for generations.
Who was Joseph? Was he a deadbeat dad? Did he help
around the house? What was his relationship to Jesus?
Whatever happened to him?

Come to the December Sup 'N' Study. We will explore these
questions in light of Scripture and tradition.

Willow School Holiday Drive A Book for Every Child

Each year during the holidays, our church has the opportunity to provide the children of Willow Elementary School with special Christmas gifts. Our first priority is to provide a new book for every one of the nearly 300 children at Willow. We learned that many of these children never had a personal book of their own in their homes until First Church began its "A Book for Every Child" Christmas campaign. Now it is a tradition that the children eagerly await. Books may be purchased which are appropriate for multi-cultural children in kindergarten through eighth grade and they must be non-religious in content. For on-line shoppers, one of the Willow teachers has suggested the Bluford Series produced by Townsend Press. This is a series of 15 books ($1.00/book) appropriate for children in the 5th to 8th grades. Also recommended is a series called "39 Clues", Guinness Books of World Records and Almanacs for kids, as they like lots of interesting pictures.

Bring your unwrapped books to the church no later than Sunday, December 12. This date must be observed so books can be sorted and delivered to Willow before their winter break on December 17. If you are a retired teacher and are available to help sort books at First Church, and/or if you would like to help personally deliver the books when our volunteer Santa caravan drives to Willow, please notify Heather in the church office.

Winter Accessories
In addition to books, we have been made aware that a real need exists for children to have gloves, hats, scarves and thermal underwear. Any of these unwrapped, donated items will be kept in the school office and made available to children in need during the winter months.

Uniforms, too!
And another way we can help...Willow children have a uniform requirement – light blue and white shirts that button and have a collar, and pants which can be black, khaki or blue. Oftentimes the clothes become worn and dirty, so the administration keeps extra, clean clothes available for special needs. If you'd like to donate unwrapped used or new, CLEAN clothes in any young person's size, these gifts will also be gratefully received.

Gingerbread House Decorating A Benefit for Habitat for Humanity at University Circle United Methodist Church

Save the Date:
Saturday, December 11
10am in the Great Hall

Bring your children, grandchildren, friends and neighbors to the Great Hall on Saturday, December 11th for a morning of HOLIDAY FUN in support of a great cause. Decorate your very own gingerbread house for Christmas and help support a Cleveland family who needs a home.

We will supply everything you need to create a fabulous gingerbread house – gingerbread, frosting and lots of candy! The house you decorate is yours to keep. Take it home with you or leave it on "display" for the all-church potluck and carol sing in the Great Hall on December 12th (and take it home following this event).

Tickets for this event are required and are available for purchase this morning outside the church office. When you purchase a ticket, you are "buying" a gingerbread house to decorate. (Tickets are not required for those who attend the event but do not decorate a house.)

The suggested price of each ticket is $10 although donations of any amount are welcome.  All proceeds from this event will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Additional donations will be gratefully accepted from those who cannot attend the event but would like to help underwrite the cost of supplies and increase our donation to Habitat. Please make checks payable to University Circle UMC with a notation "Gingerbread Houses".
