Congressman John Lewis of Georgia will be the guest at a Community Conversation sponsored by Facing History and Ourselves on Tuesday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m. at John Hay High School. Lewis has been called “one of the most courageous persons the civil rights movement ever produced” and has dedicated his life to protecting human rights, securing civil liberties and building what he calls “The Beloved Community” in America.
Facing History and Ourselves is an international educational organization whose mission is to engage people of diverse backgrounds in an examination of racism, prejudice and anti-Semitism in order to promote the development of a more humane and informed citizenry. Facing History works with young people to teach them to confront prejudice, apathy, fear and violence, to recognize moral choices and to make their voices heard.
A block of tickets for the “community conversation” with John Lewis has been reserved for University Circle UMC. If you are interested in attending, please contact Amy Wheatley at 4wheatleysATsbcglobal.net or call the church office, 216-421-1200, to add your name to our list.
