Here is an easy way to shop for coffee, tea, and other snacks while you help support several worthy causes. Orders may be placed by the 16th of May for delivery on the second Sunday of the June by submitting your order with payment to the church office. The Equal Exchange Fair Trade products are excellent quality goods that are produced by small farmer co-operatives all over the world. These farmers use sustainable methods that are environmentally friendly. Besides helping these farmers, the minimal profits that the UMW makes will go to support missions here in Cleveland and around the world.

Next Week (May 2): NOOMA Flame... Could love be the most misunderstood and misused word in our vocabulary?
Young Adult NOOMA Study

Follow the blue signs and join us!
Flame | 002 Rob Bell
I love those shoes. Really? The same way I love my wife? What’s up with the word “love”? It doesn’t have much meaning when we use it so loosely. Maybe we don’t really get it. Maybe we don’t understand what real love is. What it involves to really love somebody. What it means to give yourself to someone else. We mistake things like friendship, commitment, or lust for love, but God wired us a certain way to experience all that love was really meant to be. Not to hold us back or to make us miss out on the best that life has to offer. God created love, and wants us to feel it all in the way it’s meant to be felt.

Next Week (April 25): NOOMA Corner... Why do we so often feel empty even when we get what we want?
10:00 am, the Youth Room at the top of the stairs next to the sanctuary.
Follow the blue signs!
Why is it that often when we get what we want, we still feel empty? We work so hard to succeed, but our lives just end up becoming more about us. Can success turn on us? Can we get caught up in a smaller world where our lives are all about the things that we want? Or is there another way to live? Where life is about more than just us. Where we see people in need and we do something about it. Where our world is expanding because we are sharing our success. And maybe in attempting to save someone else from their suffering, we find out that we are actually the ones being saved.

Bad religion is to blame for airport insecurity: Messages of Faith | cleveland.com
I am inclined to think that the source of my resentment is that I am constantly mindful of the fact that the level of airport security is a direct result of bad religion. The scrutiny is the result of fired-up religious extremists high on spiritual acid who practiced, and those who threaten to promote, bad religion. Our parents and grandparents -- no matter how old or how infirm and reliant on assistance -- are being electronically scanned and searched because of bad religion. Our children, no matter how small, are being scanned, their blankets searched and their carry-on baby formula amounts limited, because of bad religion.

YOUNG ADULTS – The Young Adults at UCUMC believe that being a follower of Jesus doesn't just happen on Sunday. Together, we take part in mission and service in our Cleveland neighborhood, learn together about the bible and God's love of Justice, enjoy one another's company during our social gatherings around the city, and make space for worship throughout the week. Right now, you might want to join us at our weekly study 10am in the Youth Room upstairs. (Ask a volunteer for directions!) We're diving into the NOOMA series of short, creative videos that explore our world from the perspective of Jesus. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question, and join the discussion, and we hope you'll join us!
May Brings Flowers AND A Focus on Opportunities for you to learn how you can use your skills and talents for UCUMC. On Sunday, May 2 our Bigger Circle Potluck will feature representatives from the various social, programmatic, and mission outreach groups of the church. Bring your questions and a dish to share and join us for our potluck fellowship immediately following worship.
Pentecost Sunday, May 23 – On the day of Pentecost all the Lord's followers were together in one place. Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a mighty wind. It filled the house where they were meeting. Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions, and a tongue came and settled on each person there. The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak. Acts 2:1-4
The Holy Spirit will be in our midst on this special Sunday as we welcome new members and our confirmands (young persons who are joining the church for the first time.)
University Circle's Parade the Circle occurs on Saturday, June 12 and UCUMC will again host the "Mad Hatter" tent where children and adults can fashion stylish hats of their own creation to wear at the parade. UCUMC Hat Helpers will be needed! What a great time to tell people about UCUMC!
WATCH for MORE INFORMATION about other upcoming events such as:
• Presentation of Godspell
• A day in the Circle with opportunities to attend worship followed by lunch and activities in University Circle
• Public Recognition of University Circle United Methodist Church – the "official" grand opening – this September!

National Volunteer Appreciation week, April 18-24
During National Volunteer Appreciation week, April 18-24, the staff of UCUMC recognizes the countless members and friends of the congregation who have shared their valuable time and many talents during our months of transition and the creation of our exciting new Church in the Circle. Volunteers are a priceless jewel in the life of any organization and often go about their activities with little fanfare. So, if you have been sharing the gift of yourself by answering phones, recording services, ushering, greeting, teaching children, singing, ringing and dancing, assisting with food and fellowship, sorting, cleaning, painting, moving and a multitude of other tasks, we extend a huge THANK YOU! (And if you have yet to become involved, we have many opportunities.)

Next Week (April 18) : NOOMA Name... Are we missing out on being who God created us to be?
every Sunday, 10:00 am, in the Youth Room at the top of the stairs
This week... Name | 018 Rob Bell
We all compare ourselves to others. We spend our lives wondering what others think and say about us. Some of us even wish we were someone else. We question why we are the way we are and not the way we wish we could be. Some of us have let the expectations of others dictate who we've become. We act a certain way to be accepted but know that we're being untrue. But why are we so concerned with what other people think, say, or look like? What does it say about us if we are unable to accept who we are? Maybe if we really knew our true selves, we wouldn't give so much attention to other peoples' lives and live more in tune with the life God wants for us.

Developer MRN Ltd. secures financing for first phase of Uptown neighborhood project at University Circle | cleveland.com
Cleveland developer MRN Ltd. has secured financing commitments to build $44 million worth of apartments, stores and restaurants along Euclid Avenue, northeast of Mayfield Road and Ford Drive. After years of planning, University Circle is poised to make a huge stride in attracting residents to a district known for its educational, medical and cultural behemoths.
"It's the project that everybody's been talking about for decades," said Chris Ronayne, president of the University Circle Inc. community development group. "It's at the epicenter of what could be a turning-of-the-page toward a very vibrant University Circle that is truly mixed-use."

Next Week (April 11) : NOOMA She... Do we overlook the feminine characteristics of God?
She | 021
We didn't have anything to do with our birth. We are all here because some woman somewhere gave us life. Her pain, her effort, for our life. And when a mother gives like that to a child, she is showing us what God is like. But sometimes this part of God's nature is overlooked. a lot of us are comfortable with male imagery for God. But what about female imagery for God? Is God limited to a gender? Or does God transcend and yet include what we know as male and female? Maybe if we were more aware of the feminine imagery for God we would have a better understanding of who God is and what God is like.
